OBJECTIVE

Students will identify the linear inequalities (in both slope-intercept form and standard form) of the given graphs.

STANDARDS

TEKS A.3D (readiness standard)

CCSS HSA-REI.D.12

ACTIVITY

There are 12 problems. Students will write the linear inequality represented by the given graph. Six problems require inequalities to be written in slope-intercept form. Six problems require inequalities to be written in standard form. Each problem has four answer choices. The students will circle the color of their answer choice and color the corresponding graph numbers on the picture provided to complete the coloring activity.

COLORING BENEFITS

★ Coloring activities minimize off-task student behavior (making it more likely for students to complete the assignment in the allotted time frame) because they want to see what the end result will look like.

★ Coloring activities make self-checking simple for students: “I got blue for #5…how’d you get red?”

★ Coloring activities provide the teacher with a way to quickly assess student understanding while floating around the room: “Marie’s coloring sheet looks off…I better go over to her desk and check on how she’s doing.”

Worried about kids just coloring?…I was too. I require my students to have work shown for each problem as I would with any assignment.

POSSIBLE MODIFICATION

Some students do not enjoy coloring. Coloring can also be time consuming. Allow the coloring to be an early finisher option.
