Each TEKS Practice contains 4-8 standardized test formatted questions to help prepare students for the STAAR Algebra 1 EOC exam. Each worksheet is organized by its TEKS for targeted practice and is ideal for specific reinforcement. Reviewing every single TEKS standard in the weeks leading up to the STAAR exam can be overwhelming for students and is not suggested. For my students I administer a Practice STAAR Exam and use the student performance data to determine areas of individual strengths and weaknesses. I provide this data for the students to create individualize learning paths by having each student choose the specific TEKS they want to work on. This approach creates a sense of student ownership of their own preparation for the STAAR EOC.
Another suggestion for this resource is to present them to the students throughout the year as you teach each TEKS standard. Often times students complain that standardized test questions “do not look like” what they’ve learned in class. The reason for this common complaint is in the format of the questions. After learning and practicing a new concept, I give the students the corresponding TEKS Practice and say, “This is how STAAR will ask you these questions” to show them that it is the same skill they just learned but formatted in a specific way.
