Back to School Activity: All About Me. Every teacher needs a back-to-school activity designed to give the students an opportunity to ease back into the routine of school, get to know each other and gives the teacher an opportunity to do administrative things like take attendance, seating assignment, check schedules, distribute paperwork etc. My Back to School Activity was inspired by the art of Zentangle. I combined a basic All About Me with a fun coloring border suitable for older kids. I also included a place for students to add a photo. This resource includes two editable PowerPoint versions:
1- Full Editable: You can edit all text areas to customize it just the way you want it.
2- Partial Editable: Edit the border only for a quick prep to print.
How I Use This Activity in My Own Classroom: I personalize each activity with the students’ names and print on card stock. (If you have a lot of students, it may be easier to create just one activity by typing something like the school name and mascot.) I place the activities on the desks by seating assignment. This will first serve to help students find their assigned seat when they walk into the classroom. Second, the students will have the activity as their first task which will minimize undesirable student behavior. Once the written part of the All About Me is completed, I have the students introduce a partner and tell the class one thing from the activity like, “If Noah could be an animal, he would be a Tiger because he is strong and can protect others.” I assign the completion (coloring and adding photo) of the All About Me as homework due at the end of the week. After I’ve read through the completed activities and have learned a little bit about each student, I decorate our classroom walls with them. I also provide time at the end of class for students to look at the photos and read about their classmates.
