OBJECTIVE: Student will simplify numeric and algebraic expressions using the laws of exponents

ACTIVITY: Students will simplify 24 algebraic expressions using the laws of exponents to pair the light bulbs with the solutions on the bulb bases. Students will apply the following Exponent Rules:

*Product of Powers Exponent Rule

*Power of a Product Exponent Rule

*Power of a Power Exponent Rule

*Quotient of Powers Exponent Rule

*Negative Exponent Rule

String the light bulbs to add some holiday cheer to your classroom! This activity works well either as independent work or in collaborative groups. Answer keys provided.

You will need the following materials:

colored card stock paper

gray card stock paper

scissors

hole puncher

glue

string
