Slope Detective Activity

“Special Agent Detective…you have been assigned to the nation’s most highly classified files. TWELVE crimes have been committed. It has yet to be determined who, what, where and why these crimes occurred. Your mission is to solve the cases by finding the slope of each Evidence Card and matching the slope to the Crime Clues. Each Crime Case will have: 1 Prime Suspect, 1 Crime Committed, 1 Weapon Used, 1 Location Site and 1 Accomplice. You have 24 hours to complete this mission. Good Luck.”

This activity works best in groups of 2-4 students with students cooperatively working on 60 problems. It can also be modified to be an independent activity by having the students solve fewer cases (each case has 5 problems: graph, table, two-points, standard form equation and slope-intercept form equation).
