It has yet to be determined who, what and where these crimes occurred. Your mission is to uncover these crimes by grouping the characteristics of the linear function (slope-intercept form, slope, and x- and y-intercepts) with the clue (coded in Standard Form) on each of the eight files. Students have fun solving the crimes as they practice identifying characteristics of linear equations. Students are given 8 linear equations written in standard form. They will write the linear equations in slope-intercept form, then identify the slope and x- and y-intercepts. Final answers result in fun statements like “Crime #1: Taylor Swift Ran the Traffic Light In NY Times with Justin Bieber.”
This linear functions resource works well for collaborative groups of 2-3 students or partners! Print on cardstock and laminate the clues and envelopes to save the activity for next year too!
