“Special Agent Detective…you have been assigned to the nation’s most highly classified files. EIGHT crimes have been committed. It has yet to be determined who, what and where these crimes occurred. Your mission is to solve 24 Linear Equations and match them to the clues, coded in Slope-Intercept Form, for each crime case. You have 24 hours to complete this mission. Good Luck.”
Also Included:
9 Crime Folders
1 Special Agent Report
Answer Key
Students have fun solving the crimes as they practice writing linear equations in slope-intercept form. There are 8 equations given in standard form, 8 in Point-Slope Form and 8 in no specific form. Final answers result in fun statements like “Crime #1: Charlie Brown Ate All of the Cookies At the Birthday Party.”
This resource works well for collaborative groups of 2-3 students or partners! Print on cardstock and laminate the clues and envelopes to save the activity for next year too! To use as an independent activity, give each student a Special Agent Report and the page of suspects, crimes and locations (omitting the pages with the Crime File Envelopes).
